  2. ELECTRONIC PRINT MEDIA SERVICE USER'S GUIDE
  3. -------------------------------------------
  4. All documentation assumes you have a basic understanding of how to 
  5. use your computer and the programs you have purchased for it.
  6.  
  7. BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  8. ------------------
  9. Electronic Print Media Service images require application(s) that 
  10. are compatible with TIFF and/or EPS file formats. The TIFF images 
  11. are saved as TIFF (version 5.0) files in Adobe Photoshop. EPS 
  12. images are saved as Adobe Illustrator 1.1 files. Any other
  13. hardware requirements will be based primarily on the applications 
  14. you use and the type of final output you plan to produce. For 
  15. best results, your printer should be PostScript compatible.

  17. ART SELECTION
  18. -------------
  19. ** Tearsheet Magazine **
  20. Tearsheet contains a printed pictorial index, which provides 
  21. thumbnail and file name for each image in the issue.

  23. USING THE CLIP ART
  24. ------------------
  25. ** PAGE LAYOUT PROGRAMS **
  26. Open your page layout program, create a new document and place the 
  27. TIFF and EPS files as you would any other pictures. The following 
  28. page layout programs are compatible with both TIFF & EPS file 
  29. formats:
  30.  *PageMaker
  31.  *QuarkXpress
  32.  *Corel Publisher
  33.  
  34. ** DRAW PROGRAMS **
  35. Open your draw program, then Open or Import the EPS file. These 
  36. images can be manipulated like any other EPS image. The following 
  37. draw programs are compatible with the EPS file format:
  38.  *Adobe Illustrator
  39.  *FreeHand (TIFF files can be placed into a document)
  40.  *Corel Draw! (TIFF files can be imported into a document)
  41.  *Deneba Canvas
  42.  
  43. Many of your Electronic Print Media Service EPS images are provided
  44. as layered  illustrations. This means that several elements can be
  45. lifted out  of a single image and used as stand-alone artwork. In 
  46. order to pull  apart or separate the layers of an EPS file, a 
  47. PostScript draw program is necessary.

  49. ** PAINT PROGRAMS **
  50. The TIFF files are either 300 dpi black and white images or
  51. 170 dpi grayscale, duotone or color images; the photos are 
  52. offered in 300 dpi and 170 dpi. They can be manipulated like 
  53. any other TIFF image in the following programs:
  54.  *Adobe Photoshop (EPS images are converted to bitmap images)
  55.  *Micrografx Picture Publisher (EPS images are converted to
  56.   bitmap images. Note: Must rename image with .ai extension)
  57.  *Corel Photo-Paint (EPS images are converted to bitmap images)
  58.  *Deneba Canvas
  59.  
  60. If your application was not listed above, please refer to your 
  61. manual for compatibility.
